COACHING
It’s cool to use a business coach . . . .
. . . . because it shows that you’re one of the restless and ambitious ones, always striving to improve yourself and your business.
Coaching can support all aspects of organisational change and personal development, from strategy to leadership, from communication to confidence. Coaching helps leaders, managers, key members of staff and teams.
Would you like to:
- have a clear vision and purpose
- use your time effectively
- feel motivated and achieve job satisfaction
- be an inspirational leader and an effective manager
- make great decisions
- respond purposefully to opportunities and positively to threats
- achieve work/life balance
The Institute of Directors includes ‘enhancing personal impact and performance’, ‘retention of key people’, ‘more creative outlook in business planning’ and ‘improved management of other staff’ amongst the benefits of coaching.
Coaching is based on the premise that the client is resourceful and capable, and able to drive and steer their own development. The role of the coach is to listen and question, provide suggestions and guidance, and ensure continuity and progress.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development defines coaching as 'developing a person’s skills and knowledge so that their job performance improves .... leading to the achievement of organisational objectives. It targets high performance and improvement at work ….'
I offer one-to-one coaching sessions lasting between 60 and 90 minutes. A free introductory session can be arranged if you want to know more about the process and how it might help you and/or your staff.

Read what the Chairman & CEO of Google says about coaching
"The advice that sticks out I got from John Doerr, who in 2001 said, 'My advice to you is to have a coach.'… I initially resented the advice, because after all, I was a CEO. I was pretty experienced. Why would I need a coach? Am I doing something wrong? My argument was, how could a coach advise me if I'm the best person in the world at this? But that's not what a coach does.
The coach doesn't have to play the sport as well as you do. They have to watch you and get you to be your best. … A coach is somebody who looks at something with another set of eyes, describes it to you in [their] words, and discusses how to approach the problem.
When there is a business conflict you tend to get rat-holed into it. [My coach’s] general advice has been to rise one step higher, above the person on the other side of the table, and to take the long view. He'll say, 'You're letting it bother you. Don't.'
Hire a Coach!"
Eric Schmidt, Chairman and CEO, Google.

Testimonials
Terry has been a good coach to me. To be honest, I initially found the process frustrating. However, I slowly realised that he wasn’t going to give me answers and tell me what I should do. Rather he makes me reflect, prioritise and think. And when you’re run off your feet managing a busy business, I really benefit from this period of reflection. By not giving you the answers, he helps you develop a framework where you can deal with things better, and also start to help coach people yourself. It’s easy for someone to tell you what to DO, whilst it’s a real skill to help someone recognize WHY they do what they do and help them change.
Dave Eccles, Managing Director, Numiko
Terry’s coaching has helped me in ways I never imagined. Every time I meet with him he helps me to make important decisions about my business which result in me feeling much clearer, more focused, and excited about the future.
Helen Morris, Managing Director, New Business Clinic
The coaching has really helped me focus on what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. I do find it a fascinating process of discovery and one that leaves me feeling really motivated. I feel as though it lifts me above all the day to day crap and allows me to take a step back and think about what is important.
Kaley Gardiner, Managing Director, The Last Detail
Since working with Terry over the past year – during a period of intense business change - turnover has not only grown by 38%, but working hours have decreased.
Peter Allen, Director, DS Emotion Ltd.
I always feel excited and positive when I finish one of Terry’s coaching sessions.
Lindsay Brooks, Director, Bridport Arts Centre
By clarifying my values, focusing my vision and helping me set some simple goals, I felt empowered again to take the business to a new level. The answers were all in my head but I needed help to make sense of them. That to me is Terry's most valuable skill and well worth the investment.
