Read what the Chairman & CEO of Google says about coaching
The advice that sticks out I got from John Doerr, who in 2001 said, 'My advice to you is to have a coach.'… I initially resented the advice, because after all, I was a CEO. I was pretty experienced. Why would I need a coach? Am I doing something wrong? My argument was, how could a coach advise me if I'm the best person in the world at this? But that's not what a coach does.
The coach doesn't have to play the sport as well as you do. They have to watch you and get you to be your best. … A coach is somebody who looks at something with another set of eyes, describes it to you in [their] words, and discusses how to approach the problem.
When there is a business conflict you tend to get rat-holed into it. [My coach’s] general advice has been to rise one step higher, above the person on the other side of the table, and to take the long view. He'll say, 'You're letting it bother you. Don't.'

One-to-one Coaching
Coaching can support all aspects of organizational change and personal development, from strategy to leadership, from communication to confidence. Coaching helps leaders, managers, key members of staff and teams.
Would you like to:
- have a clear vision and purpose
- use your time effectively
- feel motivated and achieve job satisfaction
- be an inspirational leader and an effective manager
- make great decisions
- respond purposefully to opportunities and positively to threats
- achieve work/life balance
The Institute of Directors includes ‘enhancing personal impact and performance’, ‘retention of key people’, ‘more creative outlook in business planning’ and ‘improved management of other staff’ amongst the benefits of coaching.
Coaching is based on the premise that the client is resourceful and capable, and able to drive and steer their own development. The role of the coach is to listen and question, provide suggestions and guidance, and ensure continuity and progress.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development defines coaching as 'developing a person’s skills and knowledge so that their job performance improves .... leading to the achievement of organisational objectives. It targets high performance and improvement at work ….'
I offer one-to-one coaching sessions lasting between 60 and 90 minutes, the cost per session is £110. A free introductory session can be arranged if you want to know more about the process and how it might help you or your staff.
Peer Groups
Peer Groups are small groups of business leaders that meet regularly to solve-problems, exchange information, share experiences and give feedback.
Peer Groups are for business leaders that are striving to improve the performance of their organisations. Such leaders face new challenges everyday, but unlike the people they employ there is often no-one for them to easily seek advice from.
The Groups are based on the idea that few business challenges are new, that someone has been there before and can offer time-saving advice.
Meetings are confidential, candid and respectful. The Groups meet once a month for two hours, and they are facilitated Terry Morden.
Participants are selected to ensure compatible, complementary and non-competitive groups. Meetings are held in Leeds. Participants are expected to commit to three monthly meetings to ensure continuity and quality of experience for all.
Peer Groups for small businesses (5 – 50 employees) are currently up and running. Email to find out more information.

By clarifying my values, focusing my vision and helping me set some simple goals, I felt empowered again to take the business to a new level. The answers were all in my head but I needed help to make sense of them. That to me is Terry's most valuable skill and well worth the investment.
